So the red bull driver academy has produced some incredible talent over the last 15 years so let’s look at the last 6 of them!

Piere Gasly 2014-2017:

Alpha Tauri

So starting us off, the most recent graduate is Piere Gasly as he left the program in 2017 when he was successfully promoted to Torro Rosso. Gasly was signed up to the program in 2014 to compete in the Formula Renault 3.5 series where he finished runner up to another Red Bull academy driver who we will get to later, any guesses for who that was? Gasly would then race in GP2 until winning the title in 2016 by 8 points to current alpha romeo driver Antonio Giovanazzi.

He was given the red bull seat after Ricciardo’s departure at the start of 2019 but was dropped mid season in favour of alex albon.

Max Verstappen 2014

Red Bull

However Max’s time in the RBA was not very interesting as he was only in the academy for a singular year, 2014. Max would race in European F3 for that season and finished third in the standings behind his best mate Esteban Ocon and Tom Blomquist. Max would then be gifted a full time drive at Torro Rosso for the 2015 season where he would impress and would be promoted to the senior Red Bull team in 2016, taking his first F1 victory on debut in Spain. He is still currently at Red Bull after signing a new deal, keeping him at the team until 2023.

Carlos Sainz 2010-2015

Mclaren

Moving on to the next driver in our 6, this being Carlos Sainz. Sainz would join the program back in 2010, and racing in many categories under the red bull banner. Sainz would certainly not have the strongest junior career, with a victory in the 2011 Formula Renault Northern European cup and beating Gasly to the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 title. He would then get the chance at Torro Rosso for 2015 and would impress enough to replace Joylyn Palmer at Renault mid way through the 2017 season. Sainz is currently with mclaren after losing his seat at Renault to the incoming Daniel Ricciardo for the 2019 season.

Daniil Kyvat 2010-2014

Alpha Tauri

We now move onto another current F1 driver in Daniel Kyvat. Kyvat joined the Red Bull family in 2010 and had a very impressive junior career winning the likes of the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps series and the GP3 series. Kyvat would be given the nod into F1 for 2014 into Torro Rosso, and he impressed enough to be given Vettel’s vacant seat at the Red Bull team for 2015. However after a string of poor results would see him dropped in favour of Verstappen midway through 2016. Kyvat would then subequently be dropped completely from F1 by red bull and would spend a year as a tesing role for Ferrari before being recalled in 2019 for Torro Rosso. Do you guys think he has had his chance with Red Bull? Or do you think he may get another chance with them?

Alex Albon 2012

Red Bull

Our penultimate driver in this 6 is Alex Albon, another current F1 driver, and current red bull senior team driver. However Alex’s time in the academy was not a good one and he was only the in the program for a singular year in 2012 before being dropped. Alex went through a tough period in his career and personal life in 2012 and 2013 and his results on track unfortunately to a hit. Alex would compete in the Formula Renault like his other red bull adacamy drivers but failed to impress and was unfortunately dropped from the program. However after finishing third in the 2018 F2 series he was hot property and was bought out of his formula e contract at Nissan before the season started to join up with the torro rosso squad. He would then be given a chance at the senior team after impressing enough midway through the 2019 season as Piere Gasly was dropped.

Daniel Ricciardo/JEV 2008-2012

Renault F1, Techeeta FE

Now we technically have a tie for last as Jean Erik Verne and Daniel Ricciardo both joined and left the academy at the same times so I will briefly cover both. Both drivers would join the program in 2008 and would both be given seats at torro rosso for the 2012 season. Ricciardo would however be given the red bull seat from the retiring mark webber for 2013 over JEV who would go on to race for Torro Rosso until the end of the 2014 season. Their careers would then go in very different directions as Ricciardo would go on to cement himself as one of the top driver in F1 while Verne would go on to become 2 time formula e champion and in my opinion someone who could have had a really good career in F1 if he hadn't been dropped.
